European Laboratory for Intelligent Techniques Engineering

ELITE was founded in Aachen in 1991 under the guidance of Prof. em. H.-J. Zimmermann of the Aachen University of Technology (RWTH). With the scientific potential of the RWTH in Aachen and other scientific institutions in Europe and their experience in the field of fuzzy set theory and of knowledge-based systems as a foundation, ELITE uses this experience and these results in industrial and scientific projects, i.e. the European Networks of Excellence ERUDIT, EUNITE and the new project NiSIS - Nature-inspired Smart Information Systems which will start 1st of February 2005.

ELITE is a foundation independent of any hard- or software manufacturer. Its objectives are:

• Applied research and research support in Europe
• Sponsorship of activities related to intelligent technologies in Europe
• Coordination and support of scientists and practitioners in Europe
• Technology transfer in Europe
• Active research and application of intelligent techniques to problems of high importance and interest
• International (European) research and development of projects
• Exchange of practitioners and scientists
